Rememer that saying about the calmness of ducks floating on the water totally belies the mad paddling feet below? Or that old adage about icebergs being only a small part of what’s really below the surface?  Well that’s how it is when people think about how easy it looks to write and publish a book, or become a recognised expert speaker on stage.

What you see above the surface:

  • Books,
  • Speaking engagements,
  • Appause,
  • Five star reviews,
  • Luxury travel and beautiful hotels,
  • Celebratory meals with other ‘great’ people….
  • BIG BUCKS for an Easy Lifestyle!!

Oh it’s a fabulous lifestyle! Indeed!

What’s really going on:

  • Writing, Panning, second guessing the plan….
  • Re-writes, anxiety over the referencing
  • Creating the resources, ensuring that the follow up promotional materials are robust.
  • Updating websites and landing pages
  • Social Media upgrades and planning
  • Public Relations strategy
  • Speaker one-sheets
  • Workshops or Keynote development
  • Amazon account set ups, uploading files, re-checking files, uploading again, nail biting moments of triple checking all the details
  • Pricing, quoting, options and variations for print vs ebook and audio book details
  • Design dramas
  • Review requests
  • Proofing, checking, rechecking…
  • Bio and Descriptions that need to be ‘just right’ to promote and position the expertise

The challenge for most authors is that no one really helps them understand the reality at the start.  Most people think it’s all about ‘the Book’.  But what do you have to do behind the scenes to ensure that your book actually reaches some or all of the targets you had in mind from the start of your project.

At Indie Experts, we have become very well versed in all that ‘other stuff’ so that authors and speakers we work with don’t end up confused by all the details.  Some say it’s a bit like getting an MBA in Expertise when they work with us.  And we love being able to support, educate, empower our authors wiht a solid base of knowledge to help easy their anxieties on their respective journey’s.  But we also asknowlege that it can be stressful.  And it’s a few months of absolute uncertainty for many of them and their own teams of marketing and support people.  All we can really do it manage expectations and arm them all with as much information and ‘how to’ as we can.

But the end results speak for themselves and we’re excited to have recently released four new books and working now on a few more for 2025.

But don’t imagine for a moment that’s all is smoothly unfolding behind the scenes… writing, producing, publishing and marketing a book from Pages to Stages is a LOT of work.  Not for the faint hearted – but we’re here to help if you need it.
